Format Converter
HEIC to JPG,
right on your iPhone.
Photos to JPG, HEIC, or PNG. Videos to MP4 or MOV.
Your original stays put.
HEICSaves a copy in a new format; the original stays. Copies go to “PicWay Conversions”.
To convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone, touch and hold the photo in PicWay, tap Convert format, choose JPG, and tap Convert to JPG. PicWay saves a new copy in the PicWay Conversions album and keeps date, location, and tags where possible; the original isn’t replaced or deleted. Photos can become JPG, HEIC, or PNG. Videos can be saved as MP4 or MOV, in H.264 or HEVC, from the editor’s Convert tab.

Which format
should I pick?
Touch and hold a photo in your library, tap Convert format, and pick one.
-
JPG
Works everywhere. Best for sharing.
-
HEIC
Smaller files. Best if you’re staying on Apple devices.
-
PNG
Files are usually bigger. Pick it when you need a PNG.
Your original
What happens to
the original photo?
Nothing. PicWay makes a new copy in the new format. The original isn’t replaced or deleted.
-
One album for every copy
Converted copies go to the PicWay Conversions album in Photos, so they’re easy to find.
-
Details come along
Capture date, location, favorite, the albums it was in, and PicWay tags are kept where possible.
-
It tells you what didn’t
If tags couldn’t be copied, PicWay says so instead of staying quiet.
Videos
Can I convert MOV
to MP4 on iPhone?
Yes. Open a video in PicWay, tap Edit, then Convert, and pick a format.
-
Four choices
MP4 · H.264, MP4 · HEVC, MOV · H.264, and MOV · HEVC. PicWay outlines the one it recommends for your video.
-
MP4 saves a new video
MP4 leaves your original video as it was. MOV can also replace the edited version in place, and you can restore the original in Photos.
-
HDR asks first
Saving an HDR video as H.264 means converting it to SDR, so PicWay asks before it does.
-
Video to GIF
Touch and hold a video and tap Make GIF. Make Live Photo is right next to it.
Photos app vs. PicWay
Can the iPhone convert
HEIC to JPG by itself?
For new photos, yes: in Settings › Camera › Formats, Most Compatible saves new photos as JPEG and videos as H.264. For photos you already took, Apple’s examples of converting by hand use a Mac. PicWay does it on your iPhone.
-
Sharing may convert for you
Apple notes that AirDrop, Messages, or email may send a more compatible format when the other device can’t open HEIF or HEVC.
-
Still photos only, for now
Convert format works on regular still photos. Live Photos and animated images aren’t supported yet.
-
Already that format?
PicWay tells you instead of making a copy you don’t need.
