Clever Cleaner Alternative for iPhone: PicWay (Nov. 2026)

The short answer

PicWay is an iPhone and iPad app for going through and tidying your photos on your phone. Both apps work on your device. The main differences: in PicWay a left swipe sets a photo aside by default instead of deleting it, compressed Live Photos stay Live, and the Life view keeps screenshots and documents out of view without deleting them.

Feature PicWay Clever Cleaner
The swipe By default, swipe right to keep and left to set aside. Swipe up to favorite. Set-aside photos stay in your library until you review and delete them. Swipe Mode: swipe left to delete, swipe right to keep. Source
Live Photos Compressed Live Photos stay Live, with both the photo and the motion smaller. You can also turn them into still photos. Compressing a Live Photo removes the live part and turns it into a regular still image. Source
Videos Compress videos at Standard or Strong. You delete the original only after you confirm the new version. Videos are sorted by size, from largest to smallest, so you can delete the biggest ones or compress the ones you want to keep. Source
Similar and duplicate photos Duplicate items are grouped so each group keeps one. PicWay also finds similar photos and bursts, and you decide which to keep. Duplicate and similar photos are put into groups, and the Best Shot is marked. You choose what to remove or select everything. Source
Screenshots Switch the Photos tab from All to Life to keep screenshots, screen recordings, and animated images out of view, plus non-camera images whose text looks like a receipt, ID, or document. Nothing is deleted. Screenshots are gathered in one place and can be sorted by newest, oldest, or largest, then deleted or compressed. Source
Where it runs Reviewing, organizing, compressing, and deleting happen on your device. There’s no account. Everything is processed locally, and your photos and videos stay on your device. Source
iPhone and iPad Works on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17.0 or later. The App Store lists Clever Cleaner as designed for iPhone. Source

Which to use

If you want one-tap cleanup that deletes duplicates and similar photos, compresses screenshots, and turns Live Photos into stills, Clever Cleaner is built for that. If you’d rather set photos aside before deleting, keep Live Photos Live when you compress them, and use the app on iPad too, try PicWay.

When Clever Cleaner fits

Clever Cleaner is built around quick cleanup. Its App Store page lists Smart Cleanup, which removes duplicate and similar photos while keeping the Best Shot, compresses screenshots, and removes the live part from Live Photos. It also has a Skip List to leave photos out of cleanup.

When PicWay fits

  • You want to go through photos by memory, like On This Day, a month, or a Journey, and decide one at a time.
  • You want photos set aside first, so nothing is deleted until you review and confirm.
  • You want compressed Live Photos to stay Live.
  • You want to use the same app on iPad.
  • You want a Private Vault that encrypts photos on your iPhone and won’t open while your screen is being recorded.

Frequently asked questions

Does compressing a Live Photo in PicWay turn it into a still photo?

No. Compressed Live Photos stay Live, with both the photo and the motion smaller. If you do want a still, there’s a separate option that removes the motion and keeps only the photo.

Does swiping left in PicWay delete the photo?

By default, no. A left swipe sets the photo aside, and it stays in your library. Deleting only happens after you review the set-aside photos and confirm with iOS.

What happens to the original video after I compress it?

The new version comes first. You delete the original only after you confirm the new version looks right.

Does PicWay work on iPad?

Yes. PicWay works on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17.0 or later.
